They make your favourite stars shine bright. Their fashion and styling sense makes you want the same garment that you see on the television. Their ability to stay constantly updated with fashion trends, understanding one’s body type and dressing them accordingly makes them The Stylist or The Costume Designer, as we know them.
Yellow fashion gets candid with a stylist who is young, talks, eats and sleeps fashion and is climbing the ladder of success. Lets meet Kamini Juvariwala, and know the stylist and the ambitious girl in her.
So Kamini, tell us about yourself, how did you start your career as a Stylist.
I have always been attracted towards the Fashion Industry. Right then I knew that I wanted to pursue my career in the field of Fashion. It was my passion, and my dream, so without any second thoughts I enrolled for a 3 year graduation course in Fashion Communication from School of Fashion Technology (SOFT) Pune. During these years I got an opportunity to sharpen my skills, working on various practical projects, which helped my vision became clearer. By the end of the course, I knew that styling is what I wanted to do. With the help from my college faculty, the references that they gave me, I got a chance to assist various stylists. This was a crucial time of my life, as I got to learn the nuances of the fashion industry. These 2 years of training gave me the confidence that I can hold my own in this industry. People recognized my work and that’s when I got my 1st independent project. It was one of the happiest moments of my life when I saw my dream come true.
What shows / films have you done and are currently doing?
I have done 2 shows for Zee Khana Khazana. ABC All About Cooking and Liquid Lounge.
A show for Food Food channel
A T.V. commercial for Wild Stone with Dia Mirza.
I have also done a T.V. commercial with Vishavanathan Anand and Aruna Anand
I am currently doing an untitled movie.
Which is the one show or serial you have enjoyed styling the most?
I enjoy my work. So no matter which show I do, I’m always going to enjoy it and give it my best shot.
But one’s 1st television show is always a memorable one and will always be dear. For me it was Zee Khana Khazana’s ABC. I was styling for Gurdip Punji and she is an amazing person to work with. I remember how nervous I was the night before my 1st shoot, I couldn’t sleep out of nervousness but the next day everything went well on the set.
Which Film / TV actress do you think is a natural beauty?
I have worked with Minisha Lamba very closely and I think she has a perfect flawless skin.
What care do you take while styling for Serials / Films?
I take care of multiple aspects while shooting and sourcing for the shoots.
- The Style of the garment / silhouette should be in trend
The clothes should be of the right size else the most beautiful pair of garments can look ugly on a person.
- The style of the garment should flatter your body type…
e.g. – If you have a pear shaped body… you should wear garments which highlight your upper body & takes the focus away from your lower body…
- The colors of the fabrics/garments should suit your skin tone.
- I also make sure the make- up and hair & accessories are perfect according to the garments
What are your views on the latest trends in Sarees and Salwaars Suits?
The latest trends In sarees are pastel and metallic colours, Two tone sarees are also on a rise.
In trend colour this season – Radiant Orchid [lilac] Orange and grey
Fabric – Net & chiffon
My views – I think saree is the most beautiful form of garment which never goes out of style, even though it has complicated drapes…it looks totally worth it at the end.
Team your lovely, slightly embroidered or bordered saree with a sexy contrasting coloured blouse showing your midriff off and you will make heads turn.
Saree gowns are also on a rise this season. These saree gowns are a perfect answer for the modern no-fuss women. These gowns are very easy to wear and look equally good.
What style tips would you like your share with our readers?
Coco Chanel once said “Fashion changes, but style endures.”
Have / find your own personal style and be different from the crowd. Also fashion is not about being comfortable…There is nothing comfortable about wearing high heels…but we still do because it makes us look good… So girls get out of your comfort zone and Find your personal Style.
